May 2012 Promotional
Another month of excellent releases on the electronic music front for May of 2012. Proud to say that the legend Airwave kicks off this mix with his new single 'Trinidad Flashback' - a dark progressive hit under his 'Planisphere' alias, with the extremely talented Miika Kuisma on the remix end. I have been on a techno stint lately, including some hints of the genre in my productions and sets while still keeping flow on track. Terrence Fixmer caught my attention with 'When The Sun' which was a great compliment to the previous Planisphere tune. Continuing with the progressive & tech infused elements, a name that I never pass up is Luis Junior. HIs remix of 'Aquatika' by DNYO is quite possibly one of my favorite tracks at the moment - deep dark pad driven emo progressive with hints of techno. 'Dosem', another name I have an ear out for, lightens things up a tad with his upbeat, drivin' tech houser 'Tales Of Tomorrow', a tune that am patiently waiting to play out live.
Bryan Kearney, known for his relentless, destructive tech trance, trance and techno DJ sets, added his own tougher mark on the classic Nalin & Kane remix of Lustral's 'Everytime'. I recently played this at a gig of mine, and of course, that vocal created a buzz as usual. Basil O'Glue (who, in my eyes, is bringing back proper progressive trance and is one hell of a talent) creates a beautiful prog trance remix of Styller's 'All That Remains' on Markus's Coldharbour label. Back on the subject of classics, Max Graham's moody trancer 'Airtight', a longtime favorite of Oakenfold's back in the day, marks the mainstay of true trance in the rest of this journey.
Some names come and some names go, but every once in a while, you can tell who is going to be around for a good minute through their style, sound, and consistency. Will Atkinson (Borderline, Night Vision) has pretty much planted his foot deeply, and solidified the fact that he is a force to be reckoned with. 'Somewhere Else' reminds us of how this genre can actually place us in a different mindset 'somewhere else' outside of reality. The old style influenced gated synth riff def took me back to the early days where the sound was still so fresh. Next up we have a bit of a darker, more edgy sound from Sebastian Brandt, with his remix of Signum's 'Captured' from 2006. Simply put, this track has got a beast of a drive.
Continuing on with some proper uplifters, Reverse (who sounds a lot like Activa) takes you on an 'Endless Journey' as we get into the last few tracks of the mix. Not so much of a new release, but still a well put together tune that I have missed out on playing on previous promo mixes. Coming in at track 12 is my own take on an Activa's single 'Heads Down', which is a tad more bouncy, techy, and drivin' than the original. You can never go wrong with the old style 'PVD influenced' pluck melody that I kept in from the original masterpiece as well!
Another name that I have been following - 'Photographer' closes out this mix with his remix of 'Far But Close' on Silent Shore Records. I am convinced that this is one of Sean Tyas' aliases to continue making the more underground stuff, because if you listen closely, Photographer uses techniques and sounds from Sean's 2006 - 2007 sound. I could be dead wrong though. On that note, if you would like more info, please click and follow any of the below links.
Enjoy The Journey…

February 2012 Promotional
My first promotional mix for 2012 is ready to download, and I gotta say I am super happy with the amount of great music some of my favorite artists have composed so far. Rodskeez kicks it off with his remix of 'Out With The Old' by Kasey Taylor - a prog house tune that makes for a great fire starter. Looking forward to playing this one out too if given the chance. Up next we have a remix by 'Guy Mantzur', which translated extremely well at my gig this past Friday at the 'Digital Love' party in my hometown of Brooklyn NY. This was the track that pretty much got everyone in their 'ready, set, go!' moods, and was simply phenomenal when that drop hit. And everyone loves a little Guy J thrown in the mix. At track 3 we have Kassey Voorn's take on 'Azimuth', a big original hit on Guy J's solo album '1000 Words'.
As some of you may know, I throw in classics in just about every mix I play, and this mix is no exception. Moving into the realms of progressive trance, in 2001, Yunus Guvenen gave us track 5 - 'Red Pilot', a deep melodic dreamer that Sasha & Digweed used to hammer from all angles. Following this tune of wisdom, Mr. Sam brings us 'Forever Waiting' a progressive trance beauty from '03. Onto the more uplifting sequences, Oliver Brooks brings us 'Deception', on Activa's label 'Borderline'. Speaking of the man himself, as I am a huge fan of Activa, he implements his sonically washed talents on another 'Borderline' release with his remix of Marcos's 'Hypnotic', which is a tune that I am waiting patiently to play out. Coming up next, Billy Gillies has produced a track that might be my favorite of this year so far. Yes, many tunes give me goosebumps, but for some reason, I remembered the ones I got while playing this during my closing set after BT in the beginning of January this year. Nothing but trance in 'Fly Zone'
Yet another classic in the mix, this time it's by one of my all time favorite production duos, the brothers of 'Transa' who mainly resided with Chris Cowie's 'Hook Recordings back in the day. Their single 'Astro Dawn' is quite simply my favorite production from their 'Transa' moniker, and this one is straight off the vinyl. Continuing with classics and favorite artists of mine, track 12 kills two birds with one stone, as it has 2 of my all time favorites Oliver Lieb, an M.I.K.E. (under his PUSH alias). The PUSH remix of 'Subraumstimulation' is best described as pure, deep, dark trance with a hint of techno in the mix - an ageless tune in my opinion that I will never stop listening to.
Closing things up, we have two uplifters. 'Monada - Turbulence' is a tune that I am really proud to hear about and again, I am waiting patiently to bang this one out. Lastly we end off with 'Transistions' a tune from Ehren Stowers on 'Kill The Lights', a sublabel of 'Recoverworld'. Is it me, or does it have a bit of an 'Activa' influence in there somewhere? hmmmm… Enjoy The Journey..

Live @ Digital Love 2/17/2012 - The Morgan, Brooklyn NY
My live set, along with the back 2 back, track for track set with James Gill from the 'Digital Love' party in Brooklyn NY on Friday, Feb 17th is now available to download :)
The first 34 minutes is my SOLO set. I played a bit deeper this time around, and again the recording is 'Live' directly from the club with the crowd and room sound :) As I said in the past, and I'll say it again, and keep saying it, I love those sets that are recorded live with the crowd and room sound. These kind of sets can really paint a picture of what it was like if you were actually there.
After that, James Gill starts off our back to back, track for track 'versus' set at 34:15 minutes. As many of you know, I always throw in a few classics here and there in my sets, so try and point them out! A mixture of deep progressive house, progressive techno and progressive trance all compiled in this hour and a half mix set! Here is the link:

Live @ Pacha NYC (Closing Set after BT) 1/6/2012
2012 has already started out with a bang, as I was called up to play the closing spot for BT last Friday, January 6th 2012 at Pacha NYC. A gig which I thought would start around the 4am-ish mark, ended up starting at prime-time around 2:30 (for a night such as this one) after I learned that BT only plays 90 minutes sets. Was I prepared? Yes. But was I prepared to hear that I have to go on this early? Def not haha. I guess it was a stroke of luck for me to play a roughly 3 hour set after BT, bringing Pacha NYC with me on a magical trance journey till the very end. I can say without a doubt that I did my business behind the decks, playing real trance to a crowd in which the majority was filled with a new generation of clubbers. I threw in plenty of classics, even one straight from vinyl which I recorded on a CD to mix with, and of course, plenty of fresh new gems.
I didn't know officially what time I would be ending, so I didn't have a chance to wind down the set properly. There is a period of the set where I played on the deeper, darker side of the trance realm, and I am happy to say that the response was just amazing from the crowd. It's amazing how people can react to a gradual mood and vibe that gets created with the music, and each and every sound within each track has an influence to their reaction. Even if someone is totally clueless, the music infuses the mind and causes them to subconsciously change their mood, act differently, etc etc.
As many of you know, I love sets that are recorded live directly from the speakers with the crowd going nuts. It makes you feel as if you were actually there when it happened, and if you were there, it allows you to relive the experience, remembering how you felt when a certain track came on, or where you were situated in the club, who you were raging out with, etc etc. That's what it's all about!! So here it is - 98% of my live closing set (started the recording late on the first track lol) Just want to give a big thank you to all those who experienced this and enjoyed what I was trying to do and where I was trying to take you. THANK YOU!! Oh yea one more thing - someone went a little crazy with the horn blowing and it wasn't me loll. Enjoy The Journey….

December 2011 Promo
It's that time around again for the last mix of the year. The last solid addition to my promo catalogue filled with nothing but the best as always. To close the year out, we have a few tunes lined up from some of my most inspiring and talented artists which I continue to follow avidly. A new name that caught my attention the past few months is Mike Griego, who opens up this compilation with his original 'Light Years From Here', a beautiful deep progressive house tune. Weepee follows through with another prog house gem with a bit of a trancey feel to it with 'Overlay'. Guy J delivers again at track 3 with his latest 'Soul In Arp' on Outpost Recordings.
Next up we have a tune that I came across on accident while browsing beatport (I love when this shit happens). 'Sato' has kind of jungle/tech feel to it that I could't resist and could't wait to mix. Jamez is a name that I will def be on the lookout for thanks to this track. Looking forward to playing this tune out at my next gig as well! Basil O'Glue is a name that I have been listening to consistently but have never played any of his tunes until now. 'Cosmogony' is the exact kind of progressive trance that is right up my alley - dark, drivin, full of depth with melody and mood, the kind of trance where you find yourself captured in an imaginary vortex that gets you deep in thought, daydreaming for the entire duration of the track and then some. Up next we have 'Amazing', a bass driven older prog trancer by Chris Fortier under his alias 'Fade' (also the name of his label) from his progressive trance days in 2002. Boy I tell ya, I could listen to this bassline loop for hours and I will never get tired of it. Such a groove to this track and brings back so many good memories from the way progressive trance used to be, and the type of prog trance Djs used to support.
Gotta admit I am really sad to see M.I.K.E taking the happy house route and not making any quality trance nowadays, but he will forever be one of my favorite producers and inspirations of all time. At Track 7 we have his Progressiva Remix of 'Voices From The Inside', one of my favorites from 2006 followed by newcomer A.R.D.I. (not to be confused with Arty) with an amazing remix of Matt Bukovski's uplifter 'Inspired'. We continue with a tune that probably will fly under the radar, and I am glad I got my hands on this one. 'Mother Love' is amazing trance.
Resuming into the realm of uplifting trance and classics, a remix from Lange that explains everything there is to know about the genre of Trance comes in at track 10. 'Straight To The Point' a tune that will be 13 years old this year pretty much sums it all up. Take a listen and get lost in this pure trance classic. Carrying on with tougher sounds without compromising style and elementation, Running Man delivers again with a powerful melodic and dreamy uplifter 'Run To Me' on Blue Soho Recordings. And now it's time for my number one trance tune of the year, and it goes to Johan Ekman's 'Later On'. This track POUNDS on the dancefloor. Yes I get crazy about new trance that I listen to all the time, but every once in a while there is a track that stands out from all the rest, giving me goosebumps along with the feeling of nostalgia. I will never forget the crowd reaction from when I played this closing out after Paul Oakenfold this past November. This track is going to be played for as long as I have it in my possession. Coming to a close, I ended this off with my own remix of Paul Miller's 'Aqua Virgo' on Music En Route. Happy New Year and Enjoy The Journey…
